Developmental Editing

Well, I'm here to help!
Developmental editors provide an in-depth look into your manuscript and help you with pacing, POV, structure, character arcs, and more! Through developmental editing, you will get answers to questions like: am I ready to publish? Does this work fit my genre and audience?
What I do:
- Provide a detailed editor's report on your manuscript, including details on the overall story, characters and character arcs, pacing, POV, setting, resolution, target audience, any inconsistencies, and suggestions on how to fix plot holes I've noticed in the text.
- Provide in-text comments about literary elements of the story, and make suggestions to provide clarity to readers or to point out what's working well!
- Light proofreading.
Our collaboration doesn't end after the editor's report! I will help you brainstorm solutions, answer any questions you have about the notes, and be your cheerleader throughout the revision process.

What to Send?
To ensure I'm the right fit for you, ensure to include the following in your query:
- Title of your work.
- A brief introduction of who you are.
- A one-paragraph summary of your manuscript.
- A sample of writing from your manuscript no more than three pages long.
- Details of your book, including genre, target audience, word count, descriptions of up to three main characters, and the major themes of your story, if any.
- (Optional) Any questions you might have for me.
My Experience
Academic
Mikayla is a 4.0 student at Southern New Hampshire University, studying for a BA in creative writing and English with a concentration in fiction. She is also a member of Sigma Tau Delta, the International English Honor Society.
She has taken a playwriting class by Kit Goldstein Grant and a script analysis class by Lindsay Northern and Joanna Glushak. These classes were provided through Broadway Unlimited, an intensive run by Broadway actress Donna Vivino.
Professional
Mikayla has been copy-editing since the beginning of 2022, starting her professional career on Fiverr and maintaining a five-star rating throughout her time on the site.
While she specializes in fantasy and YA fiction, she has helped clients with their manuscripts through a wide range of genres, from editing student theses to epic fantasies, ranging well over 100,000 words.
Personal
Mikayla has been writing since 2015, starting with scripts and eventually moving on to short stories and novels.
She has edited friend's and family's work over the years and provided structured feedback, advice, or simply a few grammatical corrections.
